Where I've Wandered
While the majority of these photos were taken around my home state of Connecticut, this project has stretched far beyond state lines. I have captured moments in Rhode Island, New York, Maryland, Virginia, Washington, and Idaho, as well as during layovers in airports across the country, from Chicago and Charlotte to Las Vegas.
The variety of these locations comes directly from how I wander. Some spots were tied to planned activities, while others were discovered simply because I had a few extra minutes—like asking AI for a beautiful location nearby, waiting at the mechanic. Often, one location will inspire the next. For example, I was photographing headstones in a 17th-century cemetery, and I asked AI to decipher the engravings and tell me about those laid to rest-this led me to visit historical statues in other towns.
The best additions to this gallery have come from embracing unexpected detours. For example, when severe summer storms rerouted my flight to Washington, D.C., a frustrating delay became a unique opportunity. With an entire day to get from Dulles to Reagan Airport, I took the time to explore the Manassas battlefield. Later, while riding the D.C. Metro, I asked an AI for a unique place to eat. That simple search led me to discover the historic architecture and amazing food of Western Market in the Foggy Bottom area of DC. Those detours not only gave me a completely new appreciation for and desire to learn about the Civil War, but also showed me a vibrant side of the city I never would have seen.
Whether going through daily routines, traveling a bike trail, or looking out the window of an airport terminal, there is always something beautiful; we simply need to take the time to find it.
